Edwardian Downstairs Renovation and Reconfiguration

A sympathetic period renovation to modernise a tired downstairs

This Edwardian property suffered from poor placement of electrical points and over 100 years of wallpaper and layered painting. The positioning of the rooms meant that the second reception room was being underused and a decision was made to reconfigure the downstairs to open up the impressive stairwell and create a grand entrance, merging it with the 2nd reception room.

We intially stripped back the ageing plaster to the brick, revealing along the way the original wallpaper and knocking through between dining area and stairwell to create the great new living space.

Having the rooms stripped back to the bricks allowed us to add new electrical points and insulation to the external walls. The period fireplace was renovated and a new hearthstone added to make this a key feature of the room.

While making the area into a contemporary living space we retaining as much character as possible with period skirting and fitted oak flooring. The end result, a truly magnificent hallway and dining area.
